New Dad away until baby comes

Hi,

I am currently 22 weeks pregnant and my partner is based in Cyprus until October. He will get to come home for 2 weeks when baby comes but will then have to go back again.

we are both first time parents but my partner has very little experience with children - I have never even seen him hold a baby before. I am worried that as he’s missing out on all the antenatal classes he’s going to feel out of his depth when baby comes and I don’t want him to feel like I’m telling him what to do.

I was just wondering if anyone else had been in a similar position to me and what you did to help your partner prepare for a new baby?

Hi OP. My wife & I are both in the armed forces, I deployed when DD1 was 6 weeks old and my wife took full maternity. When I got back when DD was 7.5m, my wife took the stance ‘don’t be the expert of the baby’. Your DH may not do things how you like them done, but if it’s safe let him figure it out himself and bond with baby. I applied this same logic when I gave birth/took MAT leave for our second. I appreciate it might be different with 2 women though!

sorry just seen this is an old post! Hope you are doing ok.
