SENA - Anyone have any experience of claiming?

Our DD2 is almost 10 and has just started receiving extra tuition for dyslexia at her boarding school. We are investigating claiming Special Educational Needs Allowance and it seems the first step is an assement by an Educational Psychologist. If she identifies a need for extra support, I think we can claim the cost of the report (apparently between £200 and £900) and extra tuition costs.

Has anyone any experience of this?

Fairly sure my parents have gone down this route, as my sister is dyslexic, and also at boarding school. Was there anything specific you wanted to know and I will ask them?

Thanks. Laura.

I guess I'm looking for an idea of how long it takes to get approval when the report has been done and then how easy it is to make the claims each term. And is there a maximum that can be claimed?

We have.

ds has a dx of dyspraxia and we had to paid for the asseessment which we then claimed back from SENA. He hets 10 hours of 1 to 1 support, about £2000 a term.

Maximum is , I think £7000 a year

Thanks, Martianbishop. Sorry not to have replied sooner - have been busy packing for the start of term!

It is encouraging to find someone who has successfully claimed. DD is having her assessment on 12 May so we will take it from there.
