Have decided to do the married quarter thing one last time at RAF Halton

We were planning to buy a house and DH commute when we get back to the UK this summer but with the market being so unstable and the children being so young we have decided to move to Halton and do the married quarter thing one more time.

Does anyone know much about Halton?

Afraid I don't know much about the quarteres, but it is in a lovely area in general. The nearest closest village is gorgeous, however things are quite expensive and twee because it is geared to the monied London commuters.

I don't know the area at all so appreciate all the advice and opinions. We are disappointed not to be buying but in the current circumstances we think it's the most sensible option.

Don't know the area but just wanted to say good luck!

Good luck with the move. I didn't live in the quarters, but I served there a few years back, and as a camp, it is beautiful. A bit of history - it is a Rothschild estate, and is apparently on a very very very long term lease to the air force, so although there is your normal blocks and messes, there is so much character to the place e.g, they filmed part of Evita at the officers mess.
I am now out of the air force, became a civvy on 3rd Apr 08, and my chap has just moved up to scotland after us being blissfully happy in south Wales. We have had to leave our home down there and rent it out, and we can no way afford to buy where he is based, so we are going to ride the wave for 2-3 years until he is posted again. There goes my boring story - Halton is a lovely place, and at least 'us' Air force are looked after better than the other forces for acc.
Masses of good luck
Regards
Alice

Don't know anything about it but have been there a couple of times for dental appointments and like everyone else has said, it's a really beautiful area. Hope you like it.

Thanks, looks like it's def going to happen. We are going to try and get a quarter slightly earlier if possible so DD can start school in September. Think DH will follow at the end of September. I'm quite looking forward to it!
