Collingwood Wives Club

Hello all, I am new on here, are any of you a member of the Wives Club at HMS Collingwood or have any of you thought about joining ?

I don't have my SARC pass yet! DOn't know if I'll go or not, I can't swim, don't do aerobics and don't have under 5's!

I havent been down here long, a few months and well from what I have heard you have to apply for an actual wives club pass, different to a sarc pass, about £15 per year, then you pay about £1.50 each time you go which goes towards some form of refreshments, and there is a creche which is about £1.50 per child so you can leave them for up to two hours and go and exercise or just sit and have a cuppa. The only thing that has stopped me going is that I have heard that the "older" members are awful, can be quite nasty, in a smiley kinda way, a bit up themselves, pulling rank and all that. It did make me giggle as I know someone who popped in to have a look and she said, and I quote "one lady in the creche looks like Jabba the hut with grey hair and the gym lady thinks she is fit but with enough celulite to fry more than a pan of chips" !!!!!!

I would love to take advantage of the creche for a bit of mummy RnR but Im not sure from what I have heard and thought you wise folk may have some thoughts.

I know you can swim in Temeraire but I dont think there is a creche or anything like that. More a Sarc type of pass.

I have tried to get the comment made by ilovedaysinthesun removed as it is vicous and not true but apparently some people may find it funny!! Collingwood Wives Club is great. I moved to Gosport 18 months ago and joined the wives club immediately. I have made lots of new friends, I am much fitter than when I started and my son is looked after superbly in the creche. There is no "rank pulling" , no-one has any rank to pull, anyway, our husbands have or had rank, not us wives. I would recommend the club to anyone, if you think it may be for you come and give it a go, you will be made very welcome.

What a shame ilovedaysinthesun has not been along herself - if she had she would have seen that the wives club is a great way of meeting people rather than make nasty comments on people she doesn't know or hasn't met. I've been a member for over two years now and although it has previously had bad press, the new committee are trying their best to make the club a success that it deserves to be. Where else do you pay £1.50 for a creche facility for 1.45 hours? Its not everyones cup of tea and the creche is no frills but they are cared for and looked after to a high standard. The ladies working in the creche work so hard twice a week and worth their weight in gold. For husbands/partners away at sea, it can be hard looking after little ones and it is a well needed break. I would highly recommend it to anyone new to the area. I have met great people and been able to maintain my fitness. Again we have no rank - we just have in common that our partners/husbands are in the forces. Please don't let it put you off.

The people who run the club put alot of work into it and have done so for many years. If it wasnt there I would be at a loss and I think people need to recognise it for what it is. A great club. Louise
