Can I have a moan about Carillion Amey?

This is the third day I've waited in for a new bloody oven to show up. Again, ten minutes to go, and nothing. This has been going on for a month. No one seems to know what's going on, and it's escalated to complaint level Angry for all the good that's doing.

All they keep doing is reminding me OHHHH YOU GET £20 FOR EVERY DAY WITHOUT AN OVEN. I don't bloody care. I want the oven 28 days ago.

I just feel like I put up with so much other shit that doesn't work in this house (including the toilet doors inability to shut) so I at least deserve to be able to cook something.

Rant over. I spent the afternoon looking at private rentals but there's nothing within an hour and a half commuting distance to work. That's getting tempting ...

I must say that was very cathartic Grin

If there is anyone out there lurking that has any constructive advice I'd appreciate it.

They're obviously not going to show up again.

I can't keep doing this. I'm ill. I've got a really bad cold, alongside horrific morning sickness and stayed awake all day for no reason when being in bed probably would've been the best thing for me.

I've just had enough with the crap service but I'm not sure what else I can do.

How do you claim your £20 per day? My oven has been broken since the beginning of the month and won't be fixed until next week

Zaberwocky · 27/04/2017 19:08

We were advised we could claim £10 per person per day we were without the oven to cover food expenses. So £20 for me and DH. It'll be worth asking about! We need to put in the claim as soon as the new oven is installed.

Glad to know I'm not the only one though 😪 I wouldn't be bothered if they said that it won't be fixed till next month. It's just the constant lying about 'coming out to look at it' and the supposed delivery of the new one.

Well jcscot I'm now unlikely to have one for another month. I was told to wait in again today, and that'd it'd be here by 1pm. So yet another unpaid day off work for no reason. I even asked if I could just buy my own, but they don't want anyone other than them to uncap the gas Hmm

I've just had enough. I can't live on this diet of processed food Sad its crap for me, and it's crap for the baby. I can barely eat much as it is, and everything I do occasionally fancy requires the oven.

I hope your oven is sorted soon. We won't have a new one till June.

CA are utterly crap, aren't they? The hob on our cooker is working but the children are getting a bit sick of risotto, pasta and stirfry! We've raised a complaint too but it's sorted nothing - the local office still won't repair it any quicker despite the "urgent" 5 day repair deadline!

Zaberwocky · 28/04/2017 16:48

Ugh. They're horrendous. Everyone says so! I don't understand how they still have the contract. They've admitted they can't handle the responsibility. I've written to our MP just so I feel like I'm doing something Hmm

Our neighbors have a newborn (well not new now...) and haven't had heating since January! There's just so sense of prioritising. It's a universally crap service.

Have you tried fobbing the kids off with an omelette or quesadilas? I honestly can't imagine having to deal with that with kids!

I went two months in MQs in Belgium without an oven. Luckily it was summer. There are lots of one pots on the Good Food website, paprika pork, stroggy etc. I bought a combination microwave in the end so I could still cook things if I needed to.

RB68 · 28/04/2017 17:58

I would get a slow cooker and go from there - they can be had for around 14 quid. You can even do baked potatoes in them. Also possible to get a small mini oven for the surfaces - electric and then pizza can be back on the menu...

I managed with a camping gaz 2 ring cooker and grill for 12 mths so anything is possible with a bit of imagination - but that is crappy service

Zaberwocky · 28/04/2017 18:10

I've relented and bought a halogen oven Grin which will tide us over. I would've done that from day one, if it wasn't the constant lies of 'it'll be here by friday' etc. It's just wasted my time. It's appalling service. I really wouldn't care if they were honest, but it's not like work are paying me to sit at home on four occasions waiting in for nothing. We had no hot water for the first two months of living here... in December. And again I took about a week of waiting for people to show up that never did.

I'm sorry we've let you down.

Stuart, I've already been dealing with Lindsey Hughes in your office and although she has been very helpful and pleasant the only thing she was able to acheive was to bring forward my appointment by 24hrs. I raised my complaint on 7th of April, was informed it was an urgent 5 day repair and was given a date of 21st April. Lindsey was able to bring this forward to the 20th. The engineer attended and was unable to repair as he told me that they do not carry spares and that all parts must be ordered in. My actual repair appointment is now the 2nd May.

So much for an urgent repair!!!

StuartJonesCA · 30/04/2017 21:06

I'll have a chat with Lindsey and review your case. If something has gone wrong in the process I'd like to know that we've learned some lessons.

Don't forget to claim compensation if you qualify.

jcscot · 01/05/2017 09:18

Stuart, I don't think Lindsay could have done anything differently - the problem lies with the local office.

Cooker engineer only works two days a week (Friday and Monday). He doesn't carry spare parts for the Belling cookers as they must be ordered as needed.

Due to Easter hols and Bank holidays there was no engineer available so initial call out was delayed, then repair was delayed further because the part has to be ordered in.

The delays are quite simply down to the way the local office works - they've set themselves up to fail the 5 working day repair by not having an engineer available and be insisting that all spares must be ordered in.

As for compensation - I received the forms and the questions are "loaded" to say the least!!
