First up - our house in Scotland is currently empty, has been since end of last year. Rang the local council to tell them about the council tax, as it stated ont heir website that if your house is empty then for the first siz months you don't pay council tax, then 25% for 6 motnhs, then 50% then 75%,
However they say we have to pay council tax because we don't pay council tax in their region Hmm.

secondly - a neighbour mentioned in covnersation that DH should be claiming GYH mileage because the hosue is empty - how does that work , how can he claim GYH for a house he doesn't live in?

Perhaps scotland rules differ from english; they do for quite a few things.

For our house in england, when empty, was the same rules as you stated.

GYH is for him to travel to your own home if you don't live in a quarter.

ie; when Dh worked in Bristol, he travelled back at weekends to our own home where we lived. GYH only means to the house you live in and that person is trying to wangle the system if you live in a quarter and have your own house empty.

Hope I've got that right - I could be wrong but that's what happened for us. It's getting you home to your home, not your empty home in Scotland.
DH just said there are different rules for other things though?

Is your DH on a short course whilst you retain the MQ?

Saltire - ask for that on the CTAX in writing - quoting the legislation.

If you pay CATX elsewhere in UK (or CILOCT), then I don't see why you should pay full CTAX in Scotland.
