Housing vent! (apologies in advance)

Once, just once, in 17 years of marriage and 7 SFA, I would like to drop lucky and be allocated the new build, open plan, semi detached across the road with the utility room, garage, new kitchen with space for a dishwasher and football pitch garden, not the shoe box, terraced, pebble dashed, avocado tiled kitchen, on street parking, postage stamp garden (seriously, will struggle to even get the patio table on it!), that we have yet again been allocated! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!

Oh well, maybe next posting eh? (and we haven't even got to this one yet!)

That's it, keep postive Grin
I'm sure that's why they post us every two or three years, just to keep that elusive housing carrot dangling. Are you going anywhere nice?

GingerWrath · 02/11/2011 14:57

Dorset, thing is it's liable to be a 5 year posting, 5 years of gazing at the new builds across the road whilst washing up as there is no room for my dishwasher Hmm

I remember when they announced the accommodation upgrade, someone worked out that at the projected construction rate, it would still be possible to join up that day and in a whole career still never get a new/upgraded place!

GingerWrath · 02/11/2011 16:46

mpsw that really doesn't surprise me. Haven't they halted the upgrade programme now due to cutbacks?

gingerwrath just my tuppenceworth, 2 years ago we were posted to Dorset, house exactly as you describe except overlooking/overlooked by the same as ours (we had the freezer under the stairs cos there was only 1 under the counter space so that's where the washing machine went). Tiny garden with steep slope and 4 concrete steps dominating it (great for toddlers) but that turned out to be my best posting so far. Love, love, love Dorset and am itching to get back, even if that means leaving this new(ish) build with large garden/attached garage/kitchen diner/utility area and driveway.

I hope you enjoy Dorset despite the house!

GingerWrath · 02/11/2011 17:53

Chulita don't get me wrong, the area is lovely. Just venting that I am never lucky with my quarter! :)

Ginger - probably! (Haven't been paying attention recently - DH bean steals).

pimmsgalore · 02/11/2011 21:35

Ginger don't worry the new build will have been built to a poor standard will subside next year, a spring will appear in the massive garden and constantly have trips tripping as the electrics won't be able to take the dishwasher and washing machine on at once Grin

If it is any consolation our last posting we had a leaking roof (for the whole 2 years) and were supplied with buckets, constant drain problems and mold in our bathroom. Now this posting we have a lovely old 5 bed (they bumped us up a grade as there were none available for DHs rank) with lots of space but no storage and drains that block if you put anything other than water down them (not good in the toilets). So that lovely house (with the big garden that needs 2 hours worth of mowing each week) is not as good as it is made out to be :)

Ahh Blandford! Grin

I felt the same when I moved to Perham Down, but I have to say, the memories of my friends and neighbours were the best.

Take every home as a challenge...

And some of the new builds are even tinier actually, I saw the Perham ones and was thankful that our cardboard grey pebble dash at least had a dining room.

GingerWrath · 16/11/2011 13:07

Binfull this will be my first house without a dining room, my lovely chunky six seater table will have to go :(

You poor thing, can't a family member look after it for you? It'll only be a few years before you'll need it again.

fivegomadindorset · 16/11/2011 20:40

Sounds like you could be over the road from us (not army)

GingerWrath · 24/11/2011 21:44

fivego we aren't Army either!
