Waiting for redundancy announcement on 1 Sep

Anyone else in this position? DH hasn't applied and it would be fairly disastrous for our DD2s education as she starts senior school in Yr 9 5 days after the announcement, but we will lose CEA at the end of her first year there if DH is made redundant. Feeling angry that we are in this position.

The RN has been quite canny as our announcement isn't until 30/09, by which time the school year is under way and fees have to be paid until the end of that key stage, which is important for KS4 and 5 in particular.

We are in the fortunate position that none of dh's rank/specialisation were needed, and they wouldn't save enough by making him redundant as he retires in just over 2 years anyway.

Fingers crossed for you.

whenIgetto3 · 30/08/2011 13:56

We are thinking the same, if DH does get made redundant then he is thinking of training as a teacher so he can teach in a private school to get the discount for our DCs. They have all said that if daddy gets made redundant then they are not going to a normal school again so either mummy gets a job to pay fees or she home educates them Shock Would have to be a pretty good job with 4 of them to educate Grin

Lets hope that enough people volunteer, but this is something we need to get used to for the next 8-10 years unless there is a sudden U turn in redundancies.

scaryteacher · 30/08/2011 15:02

The problem seems to be that not enough have taken up the option of going voluntarily, hence the forced redundancies. I know this is the case in the RN at least.

MotherOfGirls · 30/08/2011 15:53

Sounds like the Navy is kinder than the Army, scaryteacher! Our CEA will stop the day DH leaves, which will be no later than 31 Aug 2012, unless children are within 2 years of pubic exams. DD1 starts 6th Form this Sep so CEA will cover her to her A levels but DD2 will just miss out and potentially have to change schools at the start of Year 10. Thanks for the good wishes :)

I think your plan is quite a popular one, whenIgetto3, and that the independent sector is going to have more teachers than it knows what to do with in the very near future!

scaryteacher · 30/08/2011 16:32

Make sure she does some GCSEs early then?

MotherOfGirls · 30/08/2011 17:29

I did wonder about that. I will investigate if necessary ........

madwomanintheattic · 30/08/2011 17:33

good luck all Grin
dh has been a civvie for 12 days now, as we decided to jump, rather than wait with uncertainty!

jcscot · 30/08/2011 18:52

We're lucky - there were no redundancies in my husband's cap badge (although there will be reorganisation and restructuring of the existing manpower and a freeze on transfers by the so-called "Pink List Bandits"). Some of our friends are anxiously awaiting the announcements, though.

madwomanintheattic · 30/08/2011 19:20

yy. there's a huge stack of envelopes on the SO1's desk waiting for distribution on thurs. including one for him. Grin and lots of other friends too, so the waiting game is really on now. sooo glad we aren't playing.

whenIgetto3 · 30/08/2011 19:48

Well looking at the new aff page it appears the wait will be longer traunche 2 will be delayed until the new year

madwomanintheattic · 30/08/2011 19:49

yy, i heard that there are already more delays. yuk.

DH volunteered last time round, they wanted 25 Sgts in his trade, but they told him he didn't meet the criteria as he has x amount of annotations Angry.

He wants to PVR but he's off somehwere hot next year for 6 months so they won't let him Angry

Saltire · 01/09/2011 10:11

Sorry actually, that's really selifish of me to post that, as I know there are people who are being made redundant, and don't want to be. Sad

MrsSnaplegs · 01/09/2011 11:04

MY Dh was told that they looked at only about 20 trades (RAF) in this tanch. Next tranch will cover other trades and 3rd if they do it will be a mopping up type operation to cover any areas where they are overmanned or they feel cuts have shown to be needed. Dh was not in the criteria this time, but as everything seems very fluid we are not assurec of security yet.

MrsSnaplegs · 01/09/2011 21:03

My branch won't be announced until 3rd tranche in mar 12 have to wait until then Sad
