fancy dress costume...

Have DH summer ball and the theme is 'the beach'.....yeah great for those skinnie minnies that can wear anything but us barely 5 foot, size 14 (maybe 16!!!!) aren't going to go in some hawian (can't spell today, sorry) outfit or as a mermaid. Have looked at crab costumes etc but you still need your legs out and may be really hot if I wear trousers. Anyway....has anyone got any ideas??? I do not like anything being above my knees or my belly(s) out.....

Our summer ball last year was Caribbean theme. DH wore shorts and Hawaiian shirt and I wore a kaftan from kaftansdirect and a big beach hat. The greeny blu one here

You could always wear jeans, t shirt, wool sweater and raincoat with big walking boots saying you were on an English beach in the hight of summer.

we probably all know each other really. you can't keep moving in ever decreasing circles for 20 odd years without bumping into the same people!

in this posting, there are (at the last count) 12 couples that were here the last time we were, who are all back again for a second attempt. all different corps and regts, tis even worse when you move around the world in a pack. fortunately dh would rather blow his own brains out than stay with the corps, so we've done none of that nonsense. that said, the engineers tried to blow his brains out for him about ten years ago and damn near succeeded. so if you do know me, that'll be the clincher.

I have just been on the phone to him and asked him about the ball and he said he's been told that any dresses need to be below knee and men have to have tailored shorts but he is going to find out more on the fancy dress side.

and clearly my kids are a wee bit older, because (thankfully) i have never heard of the octonauts until this moment...

Octonauts have very bad fake accents from a variety of countries...think they are trying to be multicultural..it is annoying LOL.

I'm TA Nursing Officer so doubt I am in same place as you unless you are TA too. 007 is a popular theme as DH had a christmas bash and that was a 007. The costumes were fab for that too.

HE HE you may well be in the same place as us as my DH is currently attached to the TA, but yes we have been to many 007 themed balls in our time. More pimms required I think, defo pimms o clock here now

oh its ok then we are not in the same place but they do have TA nurses etc in the same complex so did make me wonder
