Do Lts and Sgts really live in the same type of house? The house the Sgt had was identical to the one the Lt hadGrin

Yup! (Well sometimes).

Not that most Lts ever make it out of the Mess anyhow.

I didn't see the programme: were they meant to be neighbours? That I would find hard to believe.

Saltire · 20/01/2011 08:25

I don't know if they meant to be neighbours (as in next door to each other) but the impression was that they lived on the same estate in terraced house. DH said "could you imagine if a Flt lt and a Sgt were in idnetical houses in the RAF MQsGrin

Flt Lt is a Cpt. Was it a one pip-wonder (2nd Lt = Pt Of) or Lt (= Flg Of)?

The bigger NCO houses can be the same size as the baby officer ones. Especially if the NCO has a large family. But I'd expect they'd be in different parts of the patch.

Deafworm · 20/01/2011 12:29

erm saltire, we have a flt lt living next door in identical housing to a cpl (possibly sgt but fairly certain its a cpl) and then another cpl next door to them. not because theyre a big family either

Mixed estate at Lee on Solent for the RN as well.

Saltire · 20/01/2011 14:38

Ah but the RAF officers are snobs

Do the wives run around if two officers turn up, it is true? Found it quite upsetting. Really good story though. I'm really getting into the series.

Saltire · 20/01/2011 14:52

meli- luckily I don't know as have never been in that situation, nor do i know anyone who has. But I would go to all except -1- most of my neighbours house if I thought there had been a sppouse killed

Hope it never happens to you or yours, makes me upset to think about it. You army wives have a lot to put up with, day to day without the thought of that happening.

Saltire · 20/01/2011 15:06

Army -hmph.Wink
The RAF and Navy and Royal Marines wives and husbands have to do it tooSmile

whoops! Yes, all of you! God bless you all.Blush

Deafworm · 20/01/2011 16:17

have to agree with saltire, yet to be in that situation but its fairly specific and id make sure i was there, RAF officers cant be that snobby the flt lt and 2 cpls (that could turn into a sun headline!) above are all RAF :o

Majors quarters were exactly the same as the 4 bed soldiers quarters in our last patch, just on different streets. Like all army houses as far as I have seen, not pretty on the outside but very easy to live in.
The houses here are all very different and very rank directed. Soldiers are nearly all in flats, officers are a mix, some houses some flats.

DH is about to deploy and yes I would run round to ANY of my neighbours if I thought they needed anything. Two uniformed officers at the front door would suggest they needed support. I hope and pray not to see it at anyones door in the next nine months when everyone will be back safe and sound!
