I'm chomping my way through some fresh sourdough bread and some comte cheese....divine!

What's your thing?

OP posts:
aquavit · 29/06/2010 12:37

Good baguette and butter.

Smoked salmon, perhaps with some leaves, and lemon juice, black pepper, creme fraiche if it's to hand.

I am so glad that I am having limp sandwiches in front of my computer...

thighsmadeofcheddar · 29/06/2010 15:23

Parma ham with really ripe pears. Simple but delicious.

Lionstar · 29/06/2010 15:24

Sardines on toast!

MayorNaze · 29/06/2010 15:26

i have to work later so cooked myself cauliflower cheese for lunch (ok so not that simple) but SO lush

for snack at work am just about to make brie and tomato sandwich on brown bread - and will leave it unrefridgerated for a good few hours before eating so it will go all squishy

upahill · 29/06/2010 15:29

Fried mushroom and hallumi on a tortilla wrap with sweet chilli saucea and rocket is my latest fad.

Another is soft cheese and avocado on ryvita
or maybe grilled polenta with cheese.

Rollmops · 29/06/2010 15:38

Smoked salmon with creme fraiche and chives;
Manchego and membrillo;
Boquerones and crusty rustic bread;
Sourdough rye bread and good butter with sea salt...[drool]
Mushed up avocado with lots of lemon, sea salt and pepper on dark rye bread;
Good Greek salad.

[I iz hungry, obviously]

MayorNaze · 29/06/2010 15:41

polenta tastes lke crap. or maybe i am just doing it wrong

upahill · 29/06/2010 15:42

Mayor You must be doing it wrong!!

MayorNaze · 29/06/2010 15:46

well it has been a while and i did only try it once. isn't it something like add water and pat into a tin kinda like making a cheesecake base, IYSWIM? then hack into chunks as required??

how wrong am i then?

StarOfValkyrie · 29/06/2010 15:47

just a selection from cold things from the frige. Today it was left over chicken, breadsticks with humous, and fresh pinapple.

All my lunches are like that.

upahill · 29/06/2010 15:51

Mayor... Often for quickness and for a change from rice, potaotes or pasta I buy the ready made polenta for about 60p. You can fry, bake or grill it.
Dead easy and the kids like it.
I do have some pre flavoured packets from Morrisons, a bit like the Ainsley thingybob cous cous.

MayorNaze · 29/06/2010 15:58

ready made you say???

normally i am a bit of a diehard make from scratch chick but will keep my eyes peeled...

and if it still tastes like crap i will hunt you down...

RatherBeOnThePiste · 29/06/2010 16:01

STOP STOP STOP

You are making me ravenous!!

upahill · 29/06/2010 16:07

Mayor (whisper) I often use ready made gnocchi as well

BendyBob · 29/06/2010 16:17

My goodness I don't even know what membrillo or Boquerones are - but I just know I'd love them.

I'm very happy to arrive at evryone's house ala Come Dine With Me for lunch (I'd give you ALL 10/10 btw!). I'll even wash-up

My favourite food is large glass of wine + lots of nibbly cheeses, cold meats, olives, hummous all that type of thing. YUMM!

janeite · 29/06/2010 20:01

Oatcakes, a rock hard conference pear and some parmesan.

Soda bread, Cornish crunch cheddar and a rock hard pear OR a Pink Lady apple.

My yummy feta dip with toasted pittas and some radishes.

Cream crackers, mature cheddar, celery, radishes, Garners pickled onion, beetroot.

Baked camembert with radishes, celery and crunchy bread.

A big baked potato with homemade coleslaw.

Qaesadillas and mango salsa.

A vegetarian Scotch egg from Holland and Barrett!

Tillyscoutsmum · 29/06/2010 20:04

Rocket, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, shaved parmesan and toasted pine nuts

Eggy bread

Scotch Eggs/pork pie/cold cooked sausages with red onion chutney

Tiger bread, welsh butter and lemon curd

garlicoliveoil · 29/06/2010 20:32

feta cheese, cucumber and spinach leaves drizzled with garlic olive oil (yummy) and lemon juice

elliemental · 29/06/2010 20:33

steamed asparagus with lashings of melted butter, pepper and some parmesan.

DanJARMouse · 29/06/2010 20:36

these are all so posh!

What happened to beans on toast/poached egg on toast/ham and cheese rolls?!

taffetacat · 29/06/2010 21:20

Dippy egg with soldiers with my darling DD

ChippyMinton · 29/06/2010 21:27

Whatever a quick rummage in the fridge provides:
tomato sandwiches
toasted cheese and beans
cheese & biscuits
scrambled egg
leftover chinese

or failing that you can't beat a...

pot noodle!

janeite · 30/06/2010 17:19

Omg yes to Tiger bread with lemon curd!

Mushrooms with toast on the side (don't like them on toast because the toast goes soggy)

MoonFaceMama · 30/06/2010 18:58

Jacket spud. Oh yes. Cheese and bean, with some chili, or butter and roasted garlic with lots of salt and pepper.

janeite, don't buy pink lady apples! They are grown by evil people. I'm sorry i'm rubbish and can't be more factual but i remember reading when they first came out that they are (or perhaps were, now) the first natural thing to be patented. How can you patent an apple? Crazy bad! Sorry, hijack over. also i like all your suggestions!

Mayor polenta is definatly about making it with stock, and adding lots of flavour via herbs, chilli, parmesan, olive oil, sunny toms and olives etc. Also fry or grill till crispy and serve with something flavoursome. Sorry, turned out the hijack wasn't over

janeite · 30/06/2010 19:02

Really? But they are pretty and taste nice.
