Carrot cake - can I substitute vegetable oil for sunflower oil?

My carrot cake recipe calls for sunflower oil and I don't have enough to make the cake tonight. I have lots of vegetable oil so could I substitute that without any adverse effects?

I'm no authority - but if it was me, I would. Sunflowers, vegetables, can't be that different.

I'd say yes

Although i wouldn't recommend putting vegetables in a vase or anything.

yes!

but not olive

Thanks ladies! Off to make it now. It's my first attempt at this recipe so I didn't want to blow it with the wrong oil. I have had several carrot cake disasters in the past.

Kikidee
I'm interested in knowing how your cake turned out. I've also got a carrot cake recipe that calls for sunflower oil.

Hi Expat. The cake turned out really well I think. I'm not a great fan of carrot cake but I think it's pretty good. I had some sunflower oil and ended up with 1/3 sunflower to 2/3 vegetable oil. Only thing is I've got catering quantities and wondered if I could freeze some of it?
