anyone know if frankfurters are gluten free?!

that's about it really - my DH's DD (they both have coeliac disease) has them at home so reckons they're ok... I would've thought not though because most sausage-type-things are full of crap breadcrumbs etc?

or maybe she has a particular type?

any ideas... TIA

will look at hidden stash in freezer....

Which brand? Because yes, most sausages have gluten in. Our butcher makes special gluten free ones for a girl with CD in the village.

Olihan · 27/06/2010 22:22

Herta website say they are NOT suitable for coeliacs.

Olihan · 27/06/2010 22:23

Tesco do specific gluten free frankfurters.

Olihan · 27/06/2010 22:27

Quorn ones are gluten free too but do say the old 'made in a factory that uses gluten' proviso.

I'm bored and googling, can you tell .

Tesco ones look like your best bet.

M&S ones are.

Mostly, what you need to check is the flavorings etc.

On the sausages front, Helen Browning (can get in sainsburys) and Black Farmer (waitrose and sainsbury) are all gluten free.

The ones in my freezer are "American Style" supplied by Winterbotham Darby and have no wheat products on the listing - but impressive preservative lists, and >1g carb on the nutritional chart.

They do not say whether suitable for coeliacs or not.

thanks all
I'll check out the Tesco ones. I hope DH's DD isn't eating Herta ones, I know they aren't as careful at checking ingredients as they should be

Black Farmer sausages are yummy. Expensive though!

good luck with the tesco ones.

Black Farmer are expensive, but definitely yummy too.

Waitrose do some cheaper ones, using rice instead of wheat, but they are rank (can't remember the name - in a cellophane packet with a greenish label)

thye also do some waitrose own ones, which I htnk are a bit cheaper, possibly called "cambridge" suasages or similar ,which were ok. black farmer def the best though

CMOTdibbler · 28/06/2010 11:47

There are def some frankfurters that are GF because I bought some the other week in Sainsburys - had to check a few packets before I found them though

I like the M&S own brand GF sausages
