Decorating cakes - the dds want to make a football cake....

What sort of icing would I use to decorate a cake like this?

Anyone? I don't bake and I when do I smother things in butter icing.

You need fondant icing.

Make a round madeira cake. Carve bits of so it resembles a dome shape.

Slice it in half, fill with buttercream. Cover the whole cake in buttercream, put into the fridge to chill.

You will need enough white fondant to cover the cake and to make hexagonal shapes (and also some black fondant too to make hexagonal shapes).

You could also make a scarf to go around the side of the cake if you wished.
