Got chicken and bacon and pasta- which veg should I add?

I've got a leftover chicken that I want to use, bacon, creme fraiche, onions...so am thinking about doing pasta tonight.

Only have frozen peas, 1 courgette and frozen green beans. Would any of those work in the pasta?

I'd do all but the green beans but then I hate them anyway

winnybella · 11/06/2010 16:48

Peas and courgette together? Or just one of them?

i second AK

Hmmm..... only the peas I think. The frozen beans might be too suft. Courgettes - if you can slice them thin and quick fry them to stop them getting all soggy.

Greensleeves · 11/06/2010 16:50

I'd cook all the veg together with a bit of olive oil and black pepper and serve them on the side

winnybella · 11/06/2010 16:52

Yes, they do get soggy, don't they?

Hmm, I've never put peas in pasta before.

We do just onion bacon, chicken, cream and tomato sauce. It's delicious. You could add a few peas for colour I guess.

winnybella · 11/06/2010 16:53

Ah, but see Greensleeves, I'm hoping against hope that if they are part of pasta, dd will not notice and have some.

AvadaKedavra · 11/06/2010 16:55

Maybe just start off small then with peas if you know DD will most likely eat them? Your dinner sounds really good to me (dieting!)

Snorbs · 11/06/2010 16:56

If it was me, I'd do the green beans as the crunchiness would go well.

I'd also take the courgette, peel and dice it, sautee with a little oil and garlic, then bury it in a deep lead-lined grave at midnight and salt the earth afterwards before putting up biohazard signs on all approaches. I can't stand courgettes.

The Italians often put peas in pasta. They are yum with any of the creamy or cheesey pasta sauces. I often have a luscious tagliatelle with bacon, mushrooms, cream and peas when I go to our local Italian caff.

Snorbs

They would go well with bacon and onions, but the sogginess doesn't sound good- especially as DP will work til late, they will disolve sitting in the sauce for hours.

Hmm.

It's the revision.

I can make a choice usually.

Thank you all.

Right, peas, then.

Shall I add a clove of garlic as well?

The only time courgettes are acceptable is on a bbq then they are yummy.

My fave pasta dish at mo - steam broccolli and green beans. Also steam salmon in a tin foil parcel with lemon juice and rind. Gently fry a leek, add some cream, cooked pasta and the steamed veggies, serve the salmon on top...yummy.

winnybella · 11/06/2010 17:21

Ooh, that sounds lovely...love salmon.

Ok, could anyone tell me how to make the sauce tasty?

I oten find that when I add creme fraiche at the end, it doesn't really 'catch' the flavour of the ingredients and is just, well, bland and creamy. Should I let it simmer for a bit with chicken etc?

How about adding some wholegrain mustard or pesto to the cream fraiche - should give it a nice kick. Not sure if simmering it would make much difference.
