i was at the drop in clinic yesterday afternoon and my DD was faaaaar bigger than the other kids her age.

they all weighed about 16 17 pounds, she was just over 20!

midwife just said to watch what shes eating, and maybe cut down the jar a little?? she has a very healthy diet, no fatty foods, im alwasy careful on what i give her, but theres no way im putting her on some sort of diet! thats kinda the way the midwife came across.
wont she burn it off the more active she gets??

i know its a bit of a silly thread, to suggest my 8 month old is over weight but just been thinking about it all morning, just how big and chubby she looked yesterday.. but babies are meant to be chunky arnt they? she loves her food, but theres no way im over feeding her, she always lets me know when shes full.

just wodnering if theres any mums out there whos 8 month olds or close to that are about the same??x

is she crawling yet?
What 'line' is she on? Becuase unless she's off the top of the charts then she's a healthy weight.
My DD is just under 9 months, had her weighed about a month ago, think she was 18lb13 - she's a lovely chubby little thing, but pretty much follows the 50th line in the books.
You're right though, there's no way your daughter needs to go on a diet or watch what she's eating!

I bet she's fine. A friend's baby was incredibly chubby at this age, is now a normal-sized 3yo - this is just what some babies are like. I'd carry on as you are.

Don't worry lots of babies are a bit chubby at this stage. They will lose it when they get mobile. It would be silly to make any changes to her diet at this age.

what does "maybe cut down the jar a little" mean?

ShowOfHands · 10/06/2010 09:48

Well my dd was off the charts at that age and there's nothing wrong with her! She was just off the charts from about 12 weeks (born on the 50th centile) and stayed there until she started being mobile. She was bfed to demand until nearly 7 months and then we started blw so she regulated her own intake. She was 23lbs at 23 weeks btw.

The thing was, she was destined to be tall. She had rolls on rolls on rolls at the time but she was not moving too much. As soon as she was more mobile, she became the body shape she was meant to be. She is 3yrs old now, 91st centile for weight and height so perfectly in proportion. She is tall, muscular and slim.

If you are feeding a healthy diet, with milk still making up the bulk of the calories and there isn't a massive difference between height and weight, then some children are bigger than others and it's as simple as that.

My hv only ever said lovely, positive things.

DS2 was like this - he was 21lb at 6 months but at 1 year he was only a pound or so heavier. once he was crawling and moving he burned off all the excess.

that said..... just because it is low fat doesn't mean it is good for her. I have no idea about your child but a healthy diet is more complex than it just not being fatty food.
