Personally, I think mushy peas are the Devil's work. However, DH does not and asked me to get some at the shop, which did not have any so I got a tin of marrowfat peas instead. Neither of us knows what do with them to make them mushy, apart from go at them with the potato masher but I suspect there may be more to it than that though it probably involved adding some sort of banned chemicals, doesn't it? (can you sense my mushy pea loathing?).

if you boil them long enough they become mushy. I add a tsp of sugar too.
DH loves mushy peas, I do not.

Think you normally put a pinch of bi- carb of soda in the cooking water. It helps break down the skins. Maybe a quarter of a tea spoon or so.

Thanks! In the end I did mash them a bit them boiled them into submission. Yuck. DH liked them though...
