I can obviously make the jelly but how do you do anything else.

I'm looking for very simple recipes!

Mine is pretty much what Delia does.

I don't add the bananas, mind you.

You can use shop bought custard if you cannot be arsed to make it.

Make or buy any kind of plain sponge or pound cake. (I like a cake that has a slight almond flavour). Slice it, spread some jam over the slices. Arrange in the bottom of a trifle bowl you may not use all the cake. Sprinkle some sweet sherry over the cake don't drown it though. Refrigerate. Make or buy or concoct from a packet enough custard to cover the cake and sherry in a layer about 2 inches deep. Refrigerate. Serve with whipped cream.

You don't even need the jelly.

Mareira cake/victoria sponge on base. Slosh on the sherry

Add a layer of bananas/raspberries/strawberies.

Add a layer custard: sgoor ready made shop bought custard from M&S/Sainsbury's is fine.

Add a layer of whipped cream.

Done.

cheats chocolate trifle.

Take 4 double choc large muffins slice and place in dish.
Take two pots of pears in juice. Drain one pot and put juice over cake. Discard juice of other pot. Spread pears over top.
Take 150g plain choc...melt then mix with one tub of fresh custard and one small tub of marscopone cheese and whisk. Spread over the top grate over some choc et voila.

10 mins tops....very good for emergency pud...when guests appear. Send eldest dd to supermaarket round the corner, sets quickly they would never know!!
