Not the most exciting thread ever but there are loads of threads on here every week asking for meal planning inspiration I thought it might be helpful to have a thread with lots of planners on.

Ummmm....... (hi CWWM )

Friday - More freezer surprise? Possibly sausages
Saturday - Something with mince (bolognese perhaps?)
Sunday - Other half of mince (lasagne?)

Trying to empty our freezer atm, so i can think of restocking it in time for the arrival dc2 (in just over 10weeks ) so will be doing a fair bit of planning shortly.

SilveryMoon · 28/05/2010 09:17

Just securing my place for later

I try to sit down on a sunday and plan for the coming week. I try to alternate and have potatoes one night, pasta the next, then rice, then couscous, then back to potatoes and so on.
Ds1 is a bit of a fussy eater so I have started to put together my own recipe book of things that have been successful.
My dp gets bored easily so prefers there to be weeks between a repeat of the same meal. he's really bored with spag bol now, but it's ds1's favourite so i have to make small alterations to it, like make meatballs instead.
Dp is a gannit so we don't tend to have left-overs

Written with help of my 2yr Old .

taffetacat · 28/05/2010 21:36

lol @ MrsJD's typo

am also liking term "fruits of the freezer"

Appalling menu planning here this next week. The only plan I have is to make a cake this weekend as we have some friends over for tea. Its going to either be one of those frustrating weekends where I tear my hair out and wish I had planned as I fathom how to carve a family meal out of a few bacon rashers, half a pot of sour cream, mixed veg and some anchovies, or I manage to somehow pull it out the bag for the odd meal and wing the rest with a trip to the butchers, a sunny BBQ and a takeaway in front of Dr Who.

Normally, an average week consists of:

Roast chicken or similar ( fave at the mo is roast pork as got a brilliant leftover pork recipe off here recently - shredded pork rolls )
Tomato and cheese pasta with veg
Homemade pizza and dough balls with salad
Parmesan chicken with hot crusty rolls and salad
Spag bol
Sausages and veg
Cheese and pesto quesadillas with salad

Normally poor old DH has to have leftovers but tonight I did him a taffetaspecial Thai laksa. I expect he would have preferred Mrs JD's Weds night offering though.

I found an american website called "Saving Dinner" a while back which had lots of menus and meal planning suggestions. It has since changed and has very little free stuff on and emails you into distraction trying to make you subscribe if you're not careful but their cookery books are great (watch out on Amazon). They give you simple menus for 6 days in a week along with a weekly shopping list. I chose the low-carb one as it has great healthy recipes which I can then add veg, pasta, rice, etc to as wanted and I use it a lot.

SilveryMoon · 30/05/2010 09:41

bobsgirl I found that site too and signed up for e-mails which are a bit pointless because I refuse to pay for it!

the goodtoknow website has some great recipes on and has some meal planning info. You can also join them on fb.
I'll post a link later when I'm on there as today is meal plan day

Alicetheinvisible · 31/05/2010 09:54

Need to write a meal plan as going shopping this morning, but have the added difficulty of having no oven and no idea when an engineer can come out to fix it yet.

So need meals that can be either BBQed (weather permitting) grilled or cooked on the hob.

Monday - Chicken fajitas
Tuesday - Macaroni cheese
Wednesday - Steak and new potatoes
Thursday - Sausages (either on BBQ with buns or grilled and with mash)
Friday - Pasta and sauce (carbonara?)
Saturday - Bolognese

woodchuck · 31/05/2010 10:07

Monday - a giant bolognese sauces, half served as spag bol today, the other half bunged in the freezer to make lasagne later in the week.
Tuesday - cod fillets with herb bitter, new potatoes and peas
Wednesday - pizza, garlic bread and salad
Thursday - lasagne and salad
Friday - probably veggie chili with either tacos or pitta bread. I like something spicy of a weekend
Saturday - Kievs, chips and salad. i will have veggie crispbake instead of kiev
Sunday - roast chicken, stuffing, yorkshire puds, mash, veg

We are probably really boring, but these are the meals that everyone will eat. The kids will eat chili/curry if I make a really mild version for them. i have got a bit more time to cook at the mo, so i will try to experiment with some new recipes

jenk1 · 31/05/2010 14:24

Mon Sausage Chips and Beans

Tues Spaghetti Bolognaise and Garlic Bread

Weds Freezer Fruits

Thur Toasted Sandwiches Oven chips and salad

Fri Chicken Curry Rice and Naan

Sat Takeaway

Sun Roast Dinner
