Cake recipes calls for 50ml rum which I don't have - what could I substitute?

Making this Jamaican Ginger Cake but don't have any dark rum. Been to a couple of shops, none of which sell miniatures and am reluctant to fork out for a full size bottle of rum (at 30 weeks pregnant, I am no pirate).

What could I substitute? Either alcoholic or non-alcoholic? I don't want to mess with the alchemy of the recipe too much...

you could try white rum..... Bacardi?

I have lots of dark rum, can bring some round and swap you for a slice tomorrow

Bit late now as expect you have made the cake now, but I have made this cake substituting milk for the rum and it comes out fine!

Thanks for the tip, I'll definitely make it again and might try it with milk next time.

This time I used apple juice with a generous slug of vanilla extract. Predictably, the cake lasted less than 24 hours
