....defrost? Enough time? Or cook from frozen? They're going into a thai curry.

Thanks!

(forgot to mention they were fresh when bought and went straight into the freezer)

Put them in a bowl of very warm, not 'hot' water for 20 minutes.

BattyKoda · 07/05/2010 17:10

just before cooking foureleven?

If they are loose they can be cooked from frozen. If frozen into a block then they will need to be defrosted. Put in hand-hot water and change water when it has cooled to speed things up.

When I worked in a restaurant we used to put them in a colander and run them under a cold tap . Worked though.

BattyKoda · 07/05/2010 17:12

Shall I do that no and keep them in the fridge till ready to cook?

I would (and have) cook them from frozen.

foureleven · 07/05/2010 17:14

I do it just before I cook them. because usually Ive not planned properly and think - oh fucksticks, I havent defrosted the prawns - just before they need to be cooked!

BattyKoda · 07/05/2010 17:17

Thats just what went through my mind foureleven. Change of plan this afternoon, just put the kids dinner out and litteraly muttered fuck (out of earshot of course!) when it dawned on me!

So maybe I'll run under cold/slighlty warm tap and then keep in fridge till tonight?

Run under cold tap in a colender, don't use warm water as this will cook them (it doesn't take much heat to cook prawns). If you cook from frozen, i find they shrink a lot more than from defrosted.

foureleven · 07/05/2010 17:22

Yep, sounds like a plan. Enjoy your curry

BattyKoda · 07/05/2010 17:26

Have run under cold tap until almost defrosted and will leave out now until we eat.

Thanks, hungry already
