run out of butter and need cheese sauce for dinner.

Will it taste ok if I just use sunflower oil instead?

Prob a bit late now - but I always use olive oil instead of butter for my roux and it's just fine.

it wasn*t my best sauce ever but tasted nice with the broccoli anyway.

at least you didn't have to go to the shop - i was just glad that i have not been alone in going to the fridge reaching in and then having an ohhhh crap moment. don't forget to butter butter on the shopping list!

I quite often mix butter and olive oil for white sauces and haven't had a problem.

honeydragon- I went to the shops to get butter, but was too distracted buying a gigantic bar of chocolate treat

scoff the evidence you have been to the shop quick ---- then u can pretend you are on a not fat health kick!

I always use olive oil for roux sauce - fewer lumps, cheaper and theres always plenty of it in our house!

I always have, it's easier.
