I have 2 tins brought back form a holiday and need to feed people very soon.
Should I add potatoes and a green veg or is that overdoing it.
The ingredients are basically beans and meat in stock but no other veg.

no no no no no, do not add anything to eat please!!! Afterwards you can serve a very good green salad (not from a packet) with proper french dressing. Good french bread. Maybe a light starter?
Ice-cream for dessert.
My mum is from the land of cassoulet and makes a fab one, so I get very defensive....

Usually you don't add anything else to a cassoulet, but it depends on how many people you're expecting it to feed. I've done it served with rice or potatoes, but not added any more veg to it.

I know you don't usually its just I'm not sure if it will be enough for 20 year old strapping lads

add more beans then

WigWamBam · 29/07/2005 17:56

How many lads, and how big are the tins?

jamboure · 29/07/2005 18:36

what is cassoulett

FrenchGirl · 29/07/2005 18:37

it's a traditional dish from the region of Carcassone and Toulouse, made with haricot beans, duck confit, toulouse sausage and pork, cooked slowly. It's sturdy but really delicious if made well.

WigWamBam · 29/07/2005 18:38

Cassoulet is a mixed meat and bean stew.

happymerryberries · 29/07/2005 18:38

chicagomum · 29/07/2005 18:41

yes, a fitou or corbieres would be best

happymerryberries · 29/07/2005 18:50

I like a nice Fitou, but red wine always gives me an awful headache

Blu · 29/07/2005 18:50

Chicagomum - go on, make some!

WigWamBam · 29/07/2005 18:51

Why not make your own?

chicagomum · 29/07/2005 18:55

have to confess (although my mothers origins are franch) i've only ever bought the tinned variety, if anyone can give me a recipe and i can get the ingredients i'll make some for dinner tonight

WigWamBam · 29/07/2005 18:56

Frenchgirl will have the best recipe for it, I'll lay odds on that!

Frizbe · 29/07/2005 19:25

WWB I prefered Frenchgirls description of it

alison222 · 29/07/2005 22:06

Once I opened the tins, there was hardly any stock and it was so stuffed full of beans it was plenty. We did have a green salad afterwards, and then mango and ice cream. Yumm...
Didn't manage the red wine, but am off to have Baileys now.
I'd love to see a recipe though and have a go myself although I seem to remember its a real phaff. _ I'm sure I did see a recipe once
