Who would still roast a joint of beef and eat it even if it was a day out of date?

DH says it's fine, I'm unsure. Tis annoying as I only bought it on Saturday, meant to cook it yesterday, but DH ended up not being home for dinner, got it out of the fridge today to cook and it's out of date by a day!

DH is always of the mind that it will be fine and things don't suddenly just go out of date overnight but, as I am feeding it to the children, I am doubting it.

So cast your votes here >>>>>>

Its fine.

Shaz10 · 19/04/2010 15:03

Smell it. It should be ok.

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 19/04/2010 15:06

I don't think they are able to suddenly do off if they are not eaten by midnight. It will be OK to eat.

DrSpechemin · 19/04/2010 15:07

Yes - smell it - I'm sure it's fine

azazello · 19/04/2010 15:09

I'd eat it. In fact, if you want me to take it off your hands I will eat it. Where are you?

greensnail · 19/04/2010 15:09

It'll be fine I'm sure. I'm pregnant and would have no worries about eating it or letting DD eat it.

purplefish · 19/04/2010 15:10

I have smelt it, it smells like uncooked beef

Thankyou all, we are having roast beef for dinner (and if I have food poisoning from it, I kow who to blame )

It will fine - honestly

If there was any problem with it (unlikely) it would smell 'different' when you opened it...

gingertoo · 19/04/2010 15:11

xposts!

Enjoy your dinner!

DorotheaPlenticlew · 19/04/2010 15:11

Don't know if I would tbh.

I cooked and ate organic mince that was 1 day out of date once -- had a definite metallic tang to it, even once fully cooked, and we couldn't finish it.

AnnieBeansMum · 19/04/2010 15:11

Eat it - it's not like it has a secret clocking ticking and immediately starts to rot as goes beyone it's sell by date.

AnnieBeansMum · 19/04/2010 15:11

...as it goes...

DOH!

LyraSilvertongue · 19/04/2010 15:12

A day two over doesn't mean much with beef. If it smells fine, cook it.
I wouldn't risk it with chicken but beef will be safe.

MayorNaze · 19/04/2010 15:27

yes. i would. they hang posh beef for years before eating, i think. or something lke that anyway...

PheasantPlucker · 19/04/2010 15:33

Oh I would

purplefish · 19/04/2010 19:34

Thank you peoples We have eaten it...

Mince is totally different from whole beef; would be careful with mince.

DorotheaPlenticlew · 20/04/2010 08:41

Fair enough. Glad it was nice and didn't go to waste!
