And after cooking the chili for 1.5 hours they're still hard. Any tips? Will we all be poisoned?????

You're gonna need to keep cooking it until they're soft, or fish em out and cook them separately.

Tip - buy tinned kidney beans.

Have you got a pressure cooker? You could try doing the chilli in there for 10-20 mins?

Keep cooking or fish them out. The chili would still be fine without them.

The poor man's gutted, and thinks he can't do anything right . He'll just have to cook the bejeezus out of it. I don' think he has the patience to fish out the beans (it's a BIG pot of chili).

Make sure it boils, rather than simmers, for at least 10 mins? Uncooked kidney beans are likely to make you all poorly - you need to get the temp above 80C for at least 10 minutes.

I'd add a load of extra tinned tomatoes &/or stock, heat it up to a good boil (keep stirring) for 10 minutes. Then reduce heat & let it simmer for a couple of hours. Should be fine by then!

Right, i've decided to go for the "fish out the beans and cook separately" approach. DP's at work, so I'll give it a go.

Wish me luck, I may be some time.

And thanks for all your advice.
