plain vanilla buttercream:

110g organic unsalted butter - room temp
500g icing sugar
60 mls semi skimmed milk

and you can add a few drops of food colouring if you want, and always beat on high with an electirc beater for about 5 mins.

Was just coming on to ask about butter icing;

Does it have to be unsalted butter? I've only got salted in, will it be awful?

jicky · 26/03/2010 14:15

I currently favour 200g cream cheese, 100g unsalted butter and 600g icing sugar.

Tinykins · 26/03/2010 14:22

No salter butter will work just fine

I don;t use a recipe. I just put a lump of soft butter in a bowl, that looks about 2/3 the size of what I want, then cream sifted icing sugar into it with a fork, until it goes a nice stiff, non greasy, texture

it won't be awful, ive used salted butter before, you can taste a difference, but i only use unsalted if its for a non special occasion and its all i have in the fridge.

OTTMummA · 26/03/2010 15:40

sorry, i only use unsalted for special occasions lol

very soft butter, 3 times as much icing sugar, and some hot water. beat for a good few minutes in mixer. add more water if you need it looser. best icing IN THE WORLD!!
