I realise this has been around for a while, so you lot will probably be, "like, everybody knows that " but just in case any of you don't know, I'm here to share.

  1. bring small pan of water to a gentle boil.
  2. place (room temperature) eggs in and simmer for 1 minute - use a timer.
  3. Turn the heat off and put the lid on the pan for 6 mins for very soft, 7 minutes for soft yolk and firm white.

And here is the link.

Ta da!

I'm recovering from a stomach bug so needed to have egg in a mug like mum used to do. I think it's made my stomach worse, but psychologically, I feel nurtured.

I always put mine into boiling water straight from the fridge (or occasionally straight from the chicken!) but take them out when they've been boiling two minutes. By the time I've sorted out the kids' eggs, mine is perfect.

Hope you feel better soon.

After much experimentation the Delia method looks like this in our house:

  1. 4 eggs straight from fridge
  2. Pan full of boiling water
  3. Boil eggs for 2.5 minutes
  4. Turn off heat, put on lid and leave for 5 minutes
  5. Enjoy perfectly soft and creamy eggs!

I learned that from my Home Ec class way back in and technically thats a coddled egg . They are bloody good tho and much easier to do. Still shows that Delia doesnt know what she talking talking about thinking that htats a boiled egg tsk tsk
