ive done the chicken nuggets, fish cakes, made a curry from scratch from the book for the 1st time in my life, done a chicken pie and made the plum cake every week for the last 3 weeks, gorgeous.

i am a CRAP cook but all of these things have turned out great and dh & ds have loved them.
We are on a strict budget and this has helped me tons.

McDreamy · 10/03/2010 17:39

I will dig it out and have a read tonight! I am terrible for "needing" a new book and then not using it

I do the same.
when i do my meal plan for the week on a saturday i make a point of getting 2 of my cook books out and choosing 3 recipes from them. That way i rotate them and always find stuff thats delish and that i would never think of making.

I then shop for the ingredients of the meals, i have cut about 2/3rds of my shopping bill down this way.
I do allot of batch cooking as well, so the nuggets & fish cakes i made loads and froze them, thats a free meal for the following week.

Its worth trawling through your old faithfulls, there is always some thing you would never think of in them.

McDreamy · 10/03/2010 17:49

You are right and I am going to challenge myself to do this. I am sure if I menu plan I could also save money - for more recipe books
