Guess what's in my Bernard Matthews turkey breast?

Have bought 2 packs of Bernard Matthews Premium Norfolk turkey breast for dd. Normally, I buy from the deli counter at supermarket but had to buy pre-packed as you can't select from deli when buying online.

Anyway, was reading the packet and this is what's in it:

Turkey (80%), water, milk protein, salt, stabilisers (carrageenan, sodiium Tri, Di and Polyphosphates), lactose, potato and rice starch, flavouring (contains malt extract and egg protein), acidity regulator (sodium citrate), colour (caramel), dextrose, antioxidants (ascorbyl palmitate, alpha tocopherol, citric acid, sodiumm ascorbate), modified waxy maize starch, vinegar, honey, sugar, glucose syrup, mustard, butter, pepper.

I'm no nutritionist but I'd guess that this is utter c**p.

Question is, is all that stuff in the meats at the deli counter at Tesco's as well, or do I have to roast my own meats and slice them to ensure they are free from all this?

in general, yes. especially in turkey breast because it's naturally tasteless.

Yes I'd also imagine it's all pretty much crap unless it's off the bone or a specialist deli.

We still eat it though.... mmmmm cheap meat!

SenoraPostrophe · 14/07/2005 20:13

even the on the bone stuff has antioxidants and preservatives in it, mp. tis better though.

CountessDracula · 14/07/2005 20:13

it doesn't mention the steroids and antibiotics fed to the turkey I take it

Have to get the bird if you want the 'real' meat. The other stuff is all reformed cheap cuts bumped up with water, salts, preservatives and other crap. Like difference between 'proper' ham and the sandwich style square stuff
