Pickled walnuts - are they nice? / what to do with them?

Thanks to the joys of online shopping I have two large jars of pickled walnuts from Waitrose. (Don't know if I ordered them by mistake or it's their mistake but I can't be arsed to fix it...)

They look bloody scary though - weird dark floating lumps in brown juice. What are they for? Do you just eat them?

they taste like candles.

feedthegoat · 24/02/2010 20:51

My mum loves them and gets through jars at christmas. I think that they are utterly vile though!

take small dolls head and take the top off as if it were a boiled egg

put 1 pickled walnut inside

re-enact scene where hannibal lecter eats drugged persons brain

They are absolutely LUSH!!!

Eat them with cold meats/cheese/salad meals. People often have them with the leftovers at Christmas.

Oh, I feel bereft now . DH and I are just about to eat the sort of meal that would be transformed by a pickled walnut.

Ooh you answered my thread! Thanks. And I couldn't have asked for four more completely different replies, but I'll have to try one now, just in case I love them. (Unfortunately I'm completely stuffed after large dinner, but will report back)

Pollywolly, no dolls here I'm afraid, it would have to be a cuddly monkey and recreate that apocryphal (?) Chinese (?) dish where they sit round and eat monkey brains.

If I could bibbity, I'd lob you my spare jar

ooo they're delicious... with a nice piece of manchego and some bread or crackers

snigger · 24/02/2010 21:26

Delicious with smoked meat of any kind, but venison if you can stretch to it - slice them though, then you see the pretty patterns inside rather than the 'lump of blackened poo' effect they give off whole.

Lovely with smoked chicken.

OhFuck · 24/02/2010 21:28

Chop 'em up and casserole them with venison. Delish.

Alouiseg · 24/02/2010 21:48

My dad won't have shepherds pie without them!

pollywollydoodle · 24/02/2010 23:08

at my obviously hazy recall of hannibal lecter films....
