We were talking about dinner and I'd mentioned I'd put the bacon in the freezer. He said 'I wonder if you can freeze an egg, ask Mumsnet'
So I am.

You can freeze egg whites, but yolks go funny

princessmel · 23/02/2010 16:05

So you can freeze them in their shell?

No, they'd crack. You separate them, then freeze the whites in a plastic bag or box

I'd be fairly sure that if you froze an egg in its shell, the expansion would cause it to burst. Though maybe the air sac would protect it from that...

I think in the interests of scientific inquiry your DS should do the experiment - but for goodness sake put it in a container.

I've had an egg in the garden for the last 2 months, I'm sure it must have frozen at some point as has been buried under snow at various times. It hasn't cracked yet but I'm not going to eat it.
