Hummingbird Bakery cupcake problems

I have just made a batch of Hummingbird Bakery vanilla cupcakes, but I have to say I am not impressed , my dh also says that the cupcakes that I usually make are alot nicer.
Did I do something wrong? Am usually quite good at baking, but they look lke they have lots of little holes on the top.
Anyone else experienced problems or is it just me?

Mine are always fab, love hummingbird to bit for making everyone think I am so talented - but agree the icing is far too much and I have to cut by half

ah now I made the red velvet for the first ti9me this weekend and thought they were a bit odd. Could taste the salt, had no idea why 20ml of red food colour was needed as they just looked light chocolate colour anyway. what have I done wrong?

I got this book for Christmas and have only made the Chocolate Brownies so far and thought they were amazing!
