I have no cooker

Gas man told us while doing an inspection and fitting all new pipes and a new boiler that our cooker is a deathtrap and he's surprised that it hasnt blown up by now an that we're very lucky as it was leaking gas and could of gone up anytime we lit it

So now i only have use of a microwave and a deep fat fryer, we had takeaway past 2 nights but cant afford that every night until we can afford a new cooker

so any ideas or recipes to feed a family of 5?

TIA

Oh and Ds and DD2 wont eat salad they hate tomatoes and cucumber

what about mircowave meals you can get big family size cottage pies and lasagnes from iceland for couple of pounds and serve with pototo crockettes. get a friend to let you use their oven then just mircowave them to heat up .

You can make chili con carne in the microwave...

CMOTdibbler · 08/02/2010 13:28

Ask on Freecycle for a slow cooker and steamer - jsut the sort of things that people have around taking up cupboard space. George Foreman grill would help too

MumGoneCrazy · 08/02/2010 14:28

Ive done freecycle and im currently bidding on a cooker on ebay its the only one near me but the price keeps getting higher and higher and i cant afford anything more than £70 at the moment

DP is out of work and its hard enough budgeting to feed and care for 6 people and a dog as it is without having no cooker.

How do you do chilli con carne in the microwave?

Have you got a hand blender thingy? You could probably make soup in the microwave (never tried it myself as I don't have a microwave but sure it could be done quite easily) and whizz it up, that really is a cheap and easy meal, especially if you get your veg from the market near the end of the day.

Also am sure you could do pasta in the microwave if you put it in a big enough bowl of water that's boiling straight from the kettle, then you'd just need some pesto or shop-bought tomato sauce or something.

Have a look at this website, they seem to have loads of microwave recipes on there...things you wouldn't even think you could cook in there

allrecipes.com/recipes/everyday-cooking/campus-cooking/microwave/main.aspx

Hope this helps x

Mydish also has a number of great recipes on there which you can create using a Microwave www.mydish.co.uk/adv-search make sure you join the Great Ormond Street group on there

buy one of these we use it twice a week for dinner-once a week for soup and once a week for stews. You can also use for spag bol sauce (can serve with ready cooked couscous or rice-just needs hot water from kettle and it's ready), chicken legs or whole roast chicken, etc. loads of recipes on mumsnet. this is also great for chicken breasts, sausages, burgers, roast veg, toasted sandwiches and scrambled egg. The two together will set you back 30 quid and you are sorted for meals until you can get a cooker.

Go and buy a slow cooker - you can get one for under a £20 note

You can cook chicken casserole, beef casserole, chilli con carne, a whole chicken, chicken curry, lamb stew, bolanasie sauce.

If you are making cassereols/stews

put the potatoes sliced at the bottom and they will cook with all the vegtables etc all in one pot.

Infact you will put it on in the morning tea is ready when you want, you can have some at dinner time if you want.
