Anyone else have mash with no butter, egg or milk?

I made some today using an electric whisk and it was so yummy I didn't need to add my usual egg to it. (My friend thinks I'm odd for putting egg in mash so no doubt she will think me even more peculiar for not adding anything at all )

Egg??

I put 50/50 potato and cauliflower in mine, so it's very light.

HaveToWearHeels · 07/02/2010 15:32

butter and milk but never egg !

wordsonascreen · 07/02/2010 15:33

Use roosters

You barely need butter.

Dh put raw egg in mash once.

Just the once mind.

Egg?? Heretic!

I always put a very little milk, some black pepper, some grated nutmeg and a blob of butter in mine. And use a potato ricer.

Hot milk.

Loads of butter.

Salt and freshly ground black pepper.

Sometimes a dash of cream or creme fraiche.

Yum.

No egg. Never egg. No, no, no.

Just water? Riven, seems a bit sparse, surely a nice egg might pep it up a bit?

Crazycatlady · 07/02/2010 16:30

Never heard of egg in mash.

I used to use a little butter and a small dollop of creme fraiche, with salt and pepper, which was lovely.

But since having dairy allergic DD we just use olive oil, and it really makes a mighty mash. Silky, light and fluffy, delicious. Far superior, as long as your spuds are good. Add a little wholegrain mustard if having with sausages. Yum.
