I've found a recipe for oatmeal and raisin cookies that says you need "medium oatmeal" What is that?! Can I just use porridge oats?

Medium oatmeal is just that - oat MEAL, not rolled oats (which is what is sold as porrige oats)

You can get fine oatmeal (like coarse flour)
Medium - good for oatcakes and brose,
Coarse/pinhead - good for porridge.

Try whizzing your rolled oats in a blender - but it might be too fine?

A Health Food shop, or any scottish grocers' will sell oatmeal! [grin[]

Pulse the porridge oats in blender until they are a bit smaller/finer and they will be fine, I always use it...no one has complained yet.... Never used oatmeal though...

aaargh, I can't link threads for some reason. ok, do an advanced search for a post by cadbury with the words oatmeal raisin and cookie and it should appear...i know it has oatmeal in the title, but it uses rolled oats. They're great. x

Here is my recipe for Oaty Cookies - they are lovely.

Btw, I use dairy free spread because my DD is allergic to dairy but feel free to use butter.

Thank you everyone! I went to Holland and Barrat last night and bought some medium oatmeal. It's clearly much finer than porridge oats.

I appreciate the links to recipes using porridge oats though as we always have them in the house.
