Or will 20-30 minutes in the oven put in the pie raw work?

In the microwave.

I just wrap mine in tinfoil, a little drizzle of olive oil on top, and bake them in the oven. It takes about 20 minutes and keeps the fish really moist before it goes into the fish pie.

I would poach in milk/water mix for 10 minutes but, hey, it dosn't really matter if the fish is slightly undercooked, we eat sushi don't we? It tends to hold its shape better if not overcooked.

I would poach in milk with a bay leaf and some lemon rind! That's a Rick Stein tip!

I dont poach at all. Bung it in and cover with mash and cook it.

Thanks all.

Sorry to disappear. DD was being DD.

In the end I poached for about 4 1.2 minutes in milk and then used the milk to make the sauce and it all went in the oven for about half an hour and was delicious.
