Hi, I'm wondering if it would be OK to give my 13 mth-old a chicken dish, which has red wine in the sauce. According to the recipe the alcohol should be well & truly burned off, but I dunno, do you think it would be OK or not? Just typing this I'm thinking no, your thoughts???

Go for it. Sounds really tasty.
It won't have much, if any, alcohol in it after cooking. She prob won't eat much anyway.

I think it's good to get children used to what we are eating (salt etc considered obv)

Well, I make beef stew with red wine and give it to DD, but I read somewhere recently that it takes around 3 hours for all of the alcohol to evaporate.
I think it depends how much do you put in it?
We put a couple of glasses in a big pot and it stews for 3-4 hours.
If you use a lot of alkohol in not a lot of sauce and cook it for short time- I'm not sure. DP does amazing risotto with white wine, but because it cooks for only 20 minutes I don't give it to DD.
Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will be able to advise you.

It's never crossed my mind not to give it to them. I work on the basis that it's a very small amount in proportion to the rest of the food, they're not going to eat loads of it, and providing it's bubbled vigorously, it's burned off.

Same as winnybella : mine have had beef in red wine since they were 12 months ( semi pureed if minimal teeth ).

I would prob draw the line at my mum's trifle tho.
