What shall I do with my summer fruits in alcohol?

I have a kilner of summer fruit I think its currants, raspberries and strawberries. Can't remember what I steeped them in - something strong and lots of sugar.. Was a bit scared to eat them in case I got botulism or something (never done it before) I've just tasted them and they taste very nice, but what do I do with them now?

Could just serve them with icecream but as dd will be sampling them perhaps I ought to put them in a pie or something to cook the alcohol off!

Why go to the bother of making them then getting rid of the alcohol? I'd use them in drinks and also with pancakes, icecream, waffles, trifle as grown up puds. make DD something else

that sounds like a good plan actually, I did think it was a bit daft. How long will they keep open do you reckon? (not long if I keep testing them to make sure they are ok, I suspect!)

oooo trifle would be very nice and pancakes too.
yum!

also need to work out what to do with my pickled rhubarb. Why did I make that???

pickled? rhubarb?

I know. we have a rhubarb that grows more like a Gunnera so I got a bit desperate on what to do with it. There is only so much rhubarb wine that dh can make, we ate it til it came out of our ears and gave away loads.

Definitely over icecream. Yum yum yum!

Maybe you could turn the pickled rhubarb into chutney somehow?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/01/2010 12:21

maybe.... on the rhubarb. not sure..... I need to taste it and see I think.

Googled pickled rhubarb and indeed it's used a lot in chutneys/pickles with hamd and cheese

aha - clearly Umami's genius isn't limited to hacking into mn!
