Lemoncello - what do I do with it?

I have an unopened bottle of this stuff here. What do I do with it?

Drink it neat?
Does it need some kind of mixer?
Can I cook with it?

I have never tasted it in my short sweet life!

Zuppa inglese - is it not trifle?

What do you do with lemoncello?

Right. OP, this is very important. Go fetch a pen and paper. I'll wait.

Okay, ready? Now, write this down.

'tortoiseonthehalfshell

Somewhere in Australia'

Now, get some glue, and stick that piece of paper on a nice safe parcel. Put lots of bubblewrap in the parcel. It's a long way to Australia.

I hope that was helpful.

Drink it cold and neat.

Or make a mousse with it. Yums.

Made a lovely Lemon and Mascarpone trifle which was in the Waitrose xmas recipes book. Don't know if it is similar to Nige's trifle.

-sandwich bits of madeira cake together with lemon curd, line bottom of trifle bowl.

-drixxle with limoncello

-cover with defrosted raspberries

-mix togethr mascarpone and bouight custard, then smear over top of raspberries.

-cover with some more raspberries.

This was very easy and tasty pudding.

Ooh am going to make it again now.

Oooh, that last trifle with raspberries is very tempting.

I have some frozen loganberries from last summer in the freezer - they might do!

try it once. put bottle in back of cupboard. throw it away when you move house.

LoveBeingAMummy · 20/01/2010 11:19

I ahve been given a bottle of homemade and was wondering if I could do anything with it, that last one sounds nice.

GetOrfMoiLand · 20/01/2010 11:23

here is the actual link for Waitrose raspberry trifle

I used far more limoncello than that, a load of great big glugs!

Also forgot pistachios as didn;t have any at the time, but can imagine this will make a nice crunch.

meltedmarsbars · 20/01/2010 11:25

What about the lemon mousse thing? I feel the need to try that one too! Or a sorbet?

Could you make a alcoholic lemony steamed sponge pudding type thing with it?

meltedmarsbars · 20/01/2010 11:32

Wow, sounds good! Got a recipe?

Um no, was hoping you'd think it a great idea and go and make one and report back

displayuntilbestbefore · 20/01/2010 11:35

if you have sugar and lemons too, make this

meltedmarsbars · 20/01/2010 11:49

Ooh, that looks good too!

Drink it and pretend you're on the Amalfi coast or Capri (tuscany??? well I suppose it travels...)

tispity · 21/01/2010 21:11

coincidentally, it featured on a back episode of come Dine With Me today! the contestant basically served vanilla ice cream with fresh figs and berries and drizzled the limoncello on top

Ponymum · 22/01/2010 15:55

Aside from drinking it (ice cold, and only on a very hot day) I have used it to make lemon sorbet, and also to make a totally fab basil and lemon pannacotta which has become one of my most requested recipes!
