Can anyone please help me choose a really great restaurant?

DH is 40 next year and I'd like to take him to a really amazing restaurant. Am planning ahead so I can save up for it and also I'm guessing I'll need to book quite a way in advance.

We're in London but I don't mind travelling a bit. DH likes quite classic food so I was wondering about Le Gavroche or The Waterside Inn in Bray. The other thing is that DH is quite shy and has a horror of "poncey places" (his words) so it also needs to be somewhere where he'll feel comfortable.

I went to the Cannizaro a very long time ago, so have no idea what it's like now!

Don't go to meet ups BIWI because I have a small person attached to my breast most of the time. Do venture out in daylight hours with the small appendage though!

Yes, we have been to Light House and it is very nice but am looking for somewhere rather exceptional. Chez Bruce is very tempting but I'm still thinking Le Gavroche although DH's birthday is conveniently on a Saturday but Le Gavroche isn't open for lunch at the weekend.

I too have heard mixed reports of the restaurant at Cannizaro House though Afternoon Tea there os always lovely.

Anyone eaten at Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester?

The Waterside is "poncy" in the extreme!!!!!!! (IMO) but Hinds Head" is lovely as long as you ask for a ground floor table.
