Ideas please for Xmas Eve childrens tea and adult nibbles

I have 6 adults and 7 children coming round after church on Xmas Eve, around 5pm. So the children will need something substantial but quick and easy and the adults need something to soak up the alcohol nibbly to go with a drink or three.

I am off to the supermarket tonight, and have no idea what to cook. Any suggestions?

sausage and chips for kids.
easy

FolornHope · 22/12/2009 18:43

Once oyu ahev done the kids get a load of nice posh cheeses and crackers for the adults adn all sit around picking at it.

CremeDeMenthe · 22/12/2009 18:44

That's a tempting idea tbh. Or pizza/garlic bread (plain cheese of course )

And for the adults?

Was going to suggest sausage and mash.

Am also off to supermarket tonight!! See you there (if I've stalked followed your name changes correctly!)

CremeDeMenthe · 22/12/2009 18:47

LOL at pudding. A kind neighbour left huge tin of QS on doorstep today. Don't know what we've done to deserve it apart from DC waving in cute and cheery fashion on daily basis.

Or even hot dogs. Then you don't even have to cook the chips!

Nice sausages, bread rolls, assorted veg sticks and a few crisps. Kids will be happy as Larry.

Cheese and biscuits for the grown-ups, but cook a few extra sausages cos they'll want to nick them when they smell them. Or maybe bung some sausage rolls in the oven.

Soup? I've just made three huge batches.

Beetroot and cumin
Romanesco and coriander
Lentil and spinach

CremeDeMenthe · 22/12/2009 18:48

Stinkyfeet · 22/12/2009 18:50

CremeDeMenthe · 22/12/2009 18:51

FH that sounds lush. Stinkyfeet I may have to divert to Waitrose lol.
Bonsoir - your soups sound lovely.

OP posts:
FolornHope · 22/12/2009 18:51

yes I am off there too

traceybath · 22/12/2009 18:52

Delia's sausage rolls are absolutely yummy - and easy if you buy ready made all butter puff pastry.

FolornHope · 22/12/2009 18:52

( to S----y)

FolornHope · 22/12/2009 18:52

and her mini olive scones

CremeDeMenthe · 22/12/2009 19:08

S....y - tis a town not a supermarket, sorry that was a bit misleading. Can't go to Sainsbury as I'm meant to be there bag-packing with the scouts and I forgot

How does this sound:
chipolatas (possibly sticky...will google recipe)
homemade wedges - plain for kids, spicy for adults
veggies
sour cream/dips
cheese & crackers, chutney
and whatever ready made nibbles catch my eye.

Thanks all.
