What is the easiest way to ice my Christmas cake?

This is my first ever cake, I made it a few months ago and have been feeding it regulary.

Now I need to work out the easiest way to ice it as I have never iced a cake before

I liked what Delia did on tv the other night. Rolled out fondant icing and just laid it on the top ( over thin layer of marzipan i think). Didn't worry about the sides - left them bare. Decorated with silver balls round the edge and a tasteful little star. I bet its on Delia online. You could buy ready made icing to roll out but you may be an ace at making your own of course!
