DS will be 5, DD will be 1. Family party.

Seperate cakes or joint?

If joint what can I make that will be OK for both?

Separate cakes. DD won't care (hers could be a cupcake?) but DS will.

We had a joint party for our Ds's, who were turning 1 and 3, and I did seperate cakes.

If you don't want tonnes of cake, just do a tiny one for your DD and a proper one for your DS

I'd do separate (have done joint parties for our two twice, separate cakes both times)

We have had joint parties for my boys every year. Ds1 is 8 and ds2 is 5 (and next year Ds3 will join in for his 2nd birthday). They all have birthdays near to each other. We have always done one cake and they are fine with that. However, we do a cake for each of them on the day of their actual birthday just for family.
