Can you use self raising flour instead of all purpose and baking powder?

I am really liking the look of those apple spiced muffins, but don't have any general purpose flour (which I presume is the same as plain) nor baking powder/soda. My dd is off school today and I thought they'd be the perfect project.

Thanks MrsBadger, you can't get SR in switzerland either unless you go to the Brits shop and that works out jolly expensive.
