DD2 is obsessed with chocolate cake.
She will be 2 next week.
She loves Timmy (Baa)

Do I make her
a) A chocolate cake in teh shape of a sitting up Timmy as that picture linked to and covered in icing or
b) a normal round chocolate cake with a small Timmy figure sitting on it.

I am having a ridiculously difficult time deciding.

Take a photo of her holding her Timmy then have the supermarket make a photo cake.

pasturesnew · 01/10/2009 08:08

A would be lovely if you can do it, and I think you can! Can you get white candyfloss for the wool I wonder?

JackBauer · 01/10/2009 10:27

QS, the thing is, there aren't going to be any guests! Just us and a camera!

I can't do a photo cake! I have to make it myself, how much worse would it be when she sees DD1's animal cake and her peppa cake and all DH@s cakes and I got her a photo cake?! SHe'd leave home!

I was going to pipe on buttercream to do the wool, it shoudl work, Not sure how to balance a head on top though.....

Luckily DH is not so much bewildered as excited at more icing, as then there is more to eat destroy

My DD and many of her friends ( 2 year olds) all started to wail as I began to cut into the dalmation cake that had been requested - the result I had to whip the cake away cut it in another room and and then reappear ...in our house there will never be another animal shape cake again - I'd go for teh sheep on the top

thehairybabysmum · 01/10/2009 10:45

i would do a) as i like making cakes. ive jsut done a 3d Ivor the Engine and i just layered up a normal choc sponge to get the shape.

I would ice with butter icing as it would look more woolly then make fondant legs/head.

Looking at your pics you will be able to manage this no probs.

Go on, you know you want to!!!

thehairybabysmum · 01/10/2009 10:47

cocktail stick to hold head in place.

Ps pic of Ivor on my profile if you want to have a nosy.

JackBauer · 01/10/2009 10:49

That's what I was planning hairybabysmum, and just hope that I can fix the head on without it all sliding off

All of is is dependant on whetehr the black colouring turns up in time though...if it doesn't I don't have enough to do a big timmy, if it does I am ok...

thehairybabysmum · 01/10/2009 11:13

where do you live, i have some black colouring left over form Ivor's coal if you are near York??

PlumBumMum · 01/10/2009 11:23

Jack do the 3D Timmy, it will be brilliant and have you any wooden kebab sticks to go from Timmys head right down through the cake, then there is no chance of it toppling off!

Or go with a small sugarpaste Timmy on a hill of flowers

I did a mario one for ds, didn't have very much ingredients left so had to make do, he still loved it, green hill with mushrooms on it and a Mario toy sticking out of one!

JackBauer · 01/10/2009 12:18

thats sweet hbm but i am in wales! Have ordered it with begging message so hopefully it will get here on time.... (sorry carmel, i just darent think like that!)

I would do A but then I enjoy making cakes

ByThePowerOfGreyskull · 01/10/2009 12:24

sorry just realised thread has moved on lots, timmy and his friends sitting on the grass together sounds great!

seeker · 01/10/2009 12:29

You can buy black icing in Tesco - they sell packets of 4 different colours. They aren't huge bits though, so you might need to buy a few!

thehairybabysmum · 01/10/2009 12:51

Yes, kebab sticks would be better, or 3 or 4 cocktail sticks (can you tell ive been thinking about this!).

Make sure you post a pic when you do it so we can all applaud you!

mangostickyrice · 01/10/2009 13:01

Seems like you might not want to hear this, but I agree with pretty candles and carmel - dd is almost 3 and would get very upset if I suggested we ate a favourite character of hers... sorry!

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 01/10/2009 13:04

What I would do is a round chocolate cake, splodged all over with betty crocker ready made choc fudge or vanilla icing (cheat!) and covered in halved white marshmellows for timmy's wool.

Then using minirolls and chocolate icing (doesn't have to be black, chocolate is tastier than black icing!) fashion his arms, legs, face and ears and assemble.

Chocolate and marshmellows= WIN.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 01/10/2009 13:05

Oooh, a bit like this in fact! Although I think she's used white icing balls rather than marshmellows.

JackBauer · 01/10/2009 13:28

But, I don't like that cake. I have done ones lkike that and I know I can do a bigger one.
The decision will be made by when the colouring turns up I think as I can't afford loads of the supercook stuff but I have loads of icing sugar so can make as much blakc 'fresh' as I like.....

(and how dare you suggest I cheat with the icing!
)

OP posts:
JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 01/10/2009 13:42

Well I would have agreed with you about the cheating icing, BUT when I caved in and bought some, it was so much nicer than any icing I'd ever produced myself that I resolved not to bother again!

FabBakerGirlIsSURVIVED · 01/10/2009 13:49

Sweet that your DH is excited about more icing to eat.

thehairybabysmum · 01/10/2009 13:55

My 2 yr old plus rest of party were totally happy to devour Ivor, same with other shaped cakes ive dopne, never had a problem in thta dept.

JackBauer · 01/10/2009 14:59

After DD1 squished Peppas head, with lots of accompanying screaming I doubt she would have a problem... (still wouldn't eat it though, the weirdo)

JackBauWooohooohoowaaer · 03/10/2009 15:16

thehairybabysmum · 05/10/2009 10:02

hope it turns up today for you JB!!
