no
use SRflour?

AitchwonderswhoFruitCrumbleis · 14/09/2009 14:46

what about using self raising flour instead of plain? or if you have cream of tartar and bicarb you can make baking powder?

StirlingIsFedUpOfTheRain · 14/09/2009 14:46

I wouldn't use bicarb - as long as you are using self raising flour it will be fine

StirlingIsFedUpOfTheRain · 14/09/2009 14:48

My recipe for lemon drizzle is....

225g butter
225g caster sugar
4 eggs
225g self raising flour
grated zest of one lemon

just mix it all together!

fanjolina · 14/09/2009 14:49

the recipe already has SR flour in it:

9oz sugar
9oz butter
12oz s/r flour
4 eggs
3 level tsp baking powder
6 tbsp milk
Grated rind 2 lemons

I don't have cram of tartar to make the baking powder. Should I just leave it out altogether?

Use Stirlings recipe instead.

Bicarb actually works fine- I never have baking powder so I always end up chucking bicarb into the lemon drizzle mix instead.

oh thanks stirling - will use your recipe rather than the one from the MN recipes bit.

have never had lemon drizzle cake before. am looking forward to it

Mine always turns out lovely - haven't used the MN recipe!

Afterwards, when it comes out of oven, juice the lemon and add 60g caster sugar. Mix it and then spoon over the top (after you have pierced it a few times for the syrup to soak through). When it has cooled the caster sugar gives it a crunchy topping!

ooh yummy Stirling - my mouth is watering already

thank you
