You can get trays with holes in that go on the barbecue, and that would work - think they might collapse a bit straight on the bars or on skewers.

only on a tray with plwnty of oil covering them, but you'd be better off bunging them in the oven or frying them while everything else is being bbqed.

Nothing to be gained by bbqing them.
