I am doing a variation on Jamie Oliver's MOF fish pie but might need a few more ingredients to make it go further and jazz it up a bit.

Spill.

cloves, pinch cinamon and peppercorns. But then I wouldn't do Jamies pie. It needs to be poached in the milk, tis all wrong!

I don't know JO's recipe but I always add prawns, handful of frozen peas and chopped boiled egg.
[Make sure you use the stock from cooking the fish to make the sauce - best flavour]

dustbucket · 20/07/2009 16:39

chopped egg, spinach and some chopped up gherkins.

yappybluedog · 20/07/2009 16:39

that JO recipe is very good and no bloody sauce to make

ChopsTheDuck · 20/07/2009 16:44

but the sauce is the best bit!

FabBakerGirlIsBack · 20/07/2009 16:49

I used ot make a yummy parsely sauce and put some in the mash as well but having made JO's fish pie I enjoy how quick it is to put together and will alternate between fish pie with sauce and without.

I am using undyed smoked haddock and large prawns for the fish today.

Roast sweet potato or butternut squash. Yum.

FabBakerGirlIsBack · 20/07/2009 16:59

I love sweet potato but the philistine I live with, doesn't. I thought he was going to faint the day he took a big mouthful thinking it was just a regular potato.

what about no fish?

saintdobby · 20/07/2009 17:00

I use coconut milk (trussst in me, just in me, really, it's delicious) instead of sauce

in which I poach smoked haddock, plus white fish and scallops

a little julienne carrot

sorted

FabBakerGirlIsBack · 20/07/2009 17:00

How you doing, chuck?

gruyere cheese. And capers.

Horton · 20/07/2009 17:38

Capers and hardboiled eggs are my favourite additions. I totally agree that you need to poach the fish in the milk.

thighsmadeofcheddar · 20/07/2009 17:39

Yes fish in milk.
I do a cheesy/mustard/chive mash for the top.
Delicious.

BodenGroupie · 20/07/2009 17:43

Rather than a white or cheese sauce, I reduce a can of lobster bisque if I'm being posh that day.

Other nice one is a layer spinach at the bottom, normal sauce/fish combo then mozzarella before the mash. Very low fat
