Hollathans on Elvet Bridge is nice, or there's sakura, expensive but yummy japanese food. For italian romeos is good.

Its been a while since I've been but service in Hollathans can be a little slow - but food is v good. There is a place called Hide on Saddler Street , the road that takes you up to cathedral
See this BBC review for ideas (sorry can't do link!) I celebrated my 21st in this very building (diff restaurant then) but have been back a number of times and have always found the food good and service attentive.

I understand from friends that Vennels is now superb - but no idea what it does in the way of food.

If you want to really splash out The Royal County Hotel have a restaurant, which some people rave about hope that helps - have fun and say hello to lovely durham for me
