Black olives deffo. and some mint.

SpawnChorus · 16/06/2009 17:10

Agree with black olives.

Cherry toms often get bunged in too.

steamedtreaclesponge · 16/06/2009 17:10

Yes, tomatoes essential!

Guadalupe · 16/06/2009 17:11

I always do tomato, cucumber, red onion, olive oil, lemon, some cider vinegar and herbs, often mint. I prefer kalamata olives in mine.

SpawnChorus · 16/06/2009 17:11

Or even better, proper big ripe juicy tomatoes in chunky slices. But I can never find decent tomatoes.

SpawnChorus · 16/06/2009 17:12

God I REALLY fancy a greek salad now.

pine nuts

brimfull · 16/06/2009 17:52

i like olives only if they are chopped up and spread around the salad

MumtoCharlieandLola · 16/06/2009 17:52

Greeks

HeadFairy · 16/06/2009 17:53

A few lettuce leaves just to space it all out a bit iyswim. Something like a nice Romaine lettuce. And goooood olive oil... Greek if you want to be really authentic.

OhBling · 16/06/2009 17:53

And the onion must be red onion.

HeadFairy · 16/06/2009 18:00

and very finely sliced, nothing worse than a mouthful of raw onion.

PhaseAte · 16/06/2009 18:01

wheil you are all there can i ask

family bbq on sunday.
about 15 of us.
are doing poshburgers and sausages.
then want 2 salads - potato with lemon vinaigrtee and then EITHER layerd toms with basil and onion on a large flat plate

OR greeky

what do you think

OP posts:
HeadFairy · 16/06/2009 18:03

Personally I love a good tomato salad (not sure about the raw onion in it though, lots of fresh basil and nice vinagrette is enough IMO)

OhBling · 16/06/2009 18:05

I'd go for the greeky with tomato.

Am with Head Fairy on the onion (in both posts) but will pass on the hint my godmother taught me which is... when using onion in salads, soak it in vinegar (red wine preferably but whatever) first - it takes out the onion "bite".

brimfull · 16/06/2009 18:06

def tomato salad

yummy

HeadFairy · 16/06/2009 18:12

Tomatoes add a bit of freshness to counter the richness of the meat.

PhaseAte · 16/06/2009 18:13

oh god oyu lot cant you all talk amongst yourselves and come up with the same answer?!

OP posts:
ByTheSea · 16/06/2009 18:17

Definitely big chunks of ripe tomato. I prefer red onion, kalamata olives and little gem lettuce works well too.

Horton · 16/06/2009 18:56

Oh yes, sliced tomatoes and sliced onions with oil and vinegar is fab. I'd go with that. Personally, I love the bite of raw onion.

brimfull · 16/06/2009 19:08

no no no

masses of tomatoes basil and mozzarella

PhaseAte · 16/06/2009 19:08
